Natasha's Story

I rescued Natasha’s Mum who I called Lady on February 8 1991 when I was walking my dog Ben.  Lady had obviously been abandoned as she was cowering under some bushes and was very distressed.  I took Lady home she was so thin and must have been starving.  Lady soon started to relax and became very playful when I took her out for walks with Ben.  I should have realised when I tried to pick her up that she was getting very heavy but did not look fat at all that there was something wrong.

As I did not want my Ben to feel jealous I always kept lady downstairs of a night and kept Ben with me when I went to bed. On Saturday February 14, I came downstairs as usual at 7am to let Lady out into the garden.  On entering the lounge I could not believe what I was looking at.  There was Lady on my settee surrounded by eight newly born puppies all girls.  That was the start of Natasha and her sisters’ lives.

I kept four and homed four. Elsa, Titch, Natasha and Topsy, they soon started to get into a pecking order.  Elsa was the biggest so she soon became the leader.  Titch was the runt of the litter and was the size of my thumb when she was born, it was touch and go whether she would survive but being the little fighter she is, she survived even through she is half the size of her sisters. Topsy was always the timid one and the image of her Mother.  Then there was Natasha, my shadow who followed me everywhere.  It soon became apparent that Natasha was to become that little bit extra special she was so beautiful.  Always very mischievous and would on many occasions try and get too bossy with her sister Elsa.  It was as if she was telling Elsa she could be the leader if she wanted too, but in a playful way, it was like Natasha had the brains but Elsa had the brawn.  All sisters were very close.

Sadly I lost Ben and Lady through old age but did rescue many more dogs which I rehomed and did keep two more, Molly and Prince.  The four sisters accepted them well into the pack.  But it was always the sisters who had a special bond and hated being parted from each other.   So my family of six dogs were very happy for many years.

Natasha and I were so close she wanted to go everywhere with me including the loo, and would on many occasion push her sisters out of the way if they tried to get close to me, some how I looked upon her as the daughter I never had, that was how close we were.  Natasha loved to play games with me and if I was changing the bed linen she would burrow herself under the sheets and just wanted to play a game.  We would race each other up and down the stairs to see who could get there the fastest, I was sure this dog was almost human.  Natasha loved to eat my face creams, (I was always leaving lids off, so she took advantage of it) her favourite one was vitamin E cream I got from body shop.

Natasha’s best fun time was playing with water, she just loved me to put the hose on, she could play for  hours.  We manage to capture her and her sisters on camera .many times.  My Natasha always kept me smiling I would never have throught someone would come along and take her.  They have destroyed my life and the lives of her sisters who have never recovered from her loss Elsa & Topsy have become very ill, Natasha just kept them young.

Natasha and her sisters

On the 22 March 2005 at 4.15 my life was torn apart in minutes.  I opened the door to let gas fitters in who were putting in a new fireplace at 4pm. They left the front door open ignoring my strict instructions of keeping it closed, Natasha must have wondered out.  Within minutes she was taken from me.  The search for Natasha went on until 4am the next morning.  I have never recovered from the shock of her loss. How can my beloved Natasha just disappear so quickly. This dog just never left my side.  Why would anyone take her?  I have continued the search for Natasha ever since that fateful day. I will not give up until I find her.  It’s been a year now and it was her birthday on February 14.  My life will never be the same and I will continue my search for her, she means the world to me I just pray that she will be found with your help.

Upon her safe return a reward will be paid.
